Lena

Lena

Lena is Mathias Delplanque’s dubby techno project. Mathias started to work under this name in 2000 and released the first Lena album in 2002 on the belgian label Quatermass. Initially influenced by Berlin’s dubby electronica and techno from the 90’s, Lena developped his own signature by crossing genres and mixing concrete and electroacoustic elements to african and jamaïcan song structures and rhythms.

In 2007, Mathias created The Floating Roots Orchestra (occasionally composed of Steve Argüelles, Rob Mazurek, Black Sifichi, Charlie O, Charles-Eric Charrier, Alice Lewis, Daniel Givens…). The work with this ensemble gave birth to the album « Lost-Wax », released on Plush in 2008 and the band regularly appears on stage under various configurations.

Lena’s recent works (shows and productions) reveal a more flexible approach of sound production, giving more space to live electronic and improvisation.
